No pictures today. We relaxed on board as the
wind blew. Last evening we had steady 30 mph winds with gusts to the
low 40s. During the day today we had steady wind at 25 until late
afternoon and now the wind is down to about 15. Should be a good day
tomorrow. We'll provision and tour the town a bit then leave for
somewhere on Tuesday. We have not decided where just yet.

Again no pictures ... we woke as the wind was slowing down.
We walked to town, bought needed supplies and returned for lunch and dinner
onboard. A real quiet and very relaxing day. Carey fixed us pork
chops, mashed potatoes and vegetables for dinner. We both read a bit
and Carey worked her second jigsaw puzzle. She does one in record time
... amazing! We have met Rob and Kathy on the trawler, Scot Free, from Ontario.
We'll be leaving with them tomorrow for points south, to include Tahiti
Beach, Taloo Bank, Cracker Peas Bar, and Pete's Pub in Little Harbor.
Likely we will not have internet for a few days. We'll catch up when
we can.

Lubbers Quarters and Tiloo Bank, Abaco, Bahamas |
|
Underway at noon for Lubbers Quarters where Cracker Peas is
located. Cracker P's is a bar and restaurant famous because the
original Cracker P, who died in 1956, was famous for growing great
vegetables and walking around naked. He did not like clothes. We
make the 8 mile trip to an anchorage close to Cracker P's and took the
dinghy to the local Tahiti Beach for a walk. We traveled with Rob and
Kathy, seen below on their dinghy. Over the next two days we gave the
dinghies a real workout. After our walk of Tahiti Beach we had a glass
of wine or two on Apolonia then settled in for the night. Up the
morning of the 20th we dinghied into Seaside resort and walked to the
Atlantic Ocean beach where one house had a wooden statue of a sailor
watching the Ocean. Later we jumped in the dinghies and traveled 2
miles to Cracker P's for lunch. The last three pictures show this
fantastic place that we really enjoyed ... best food so far. Tomorrow
we'll relax till mid afternoon, with some swimming possible, then move at
high tide to Pete's Pub at Little Harbor.

Pete's Pub at Little Harbor, Abaco, Bahamas |
|
|
We waited around Tiloo Bank until 3 pm to allow us to pass the entrance into
Little Harbor at near high tide, necessary as there is only 3.5 feet of
water at low tide. We're still traveling with Rob and Kathy (they and
their boat pictured below). We arrived at Little Harbor, just a 9
mile trip, at high tide and had plenty of water. Once inside,
the bay deepens considerably. There were some new homes on the shore
line as we came in indicating the area may be growing a bit. However,
Pete's Pub was just like we remembered. A wood and thatched roof tiki
bar like atmosphere where food and drink are both better than ok. The
ocean is just over the cay so we'll probably stay here a day or two and
enjoy the beach. |

Pete's Pub at Little Harbor, Abaco, Bahamas |
|
|
Up at normal time we had our coffee and decided to relax all day. The
wind was up a bit today so travel would not have been fun. Many of the
anchored or moored boats stayed the day and enjoyed Pete's Pub's drinks and
food or just relaxed on their boats. The entry way into Little Harbor
was quiet but belied what laid on the other side, a rough ride on the Sea of
Abaco. The pretty boat you see below was in the Sea of Abaco the night
before and quickly came in this morning to the Little Harbor moorings to
relax a bit. And the last picture is of our dinghy that has really
gotten some use on these last few days on the Sea of Abaco. She did a
fine job after I determined, three days ago, that the choke mechanism had
come apart and I found that I was capable of putting it back together.
Once the choke worked the engine started and then ran fine every time we
used it. |

|
|
We stayed yet another day at Little Harbor, simply relaxing. Lots of
boats left then more replaced them. We dinghed in for lunch and met
people from Vermont, Solomon's Island, Maryland, and a couple from Texas
that have just purchased their catamaran sail boat and are committed to at
least three years living aboard and traveling the waterways. The
pictures below show Apolonia at her mooring in Little Harbor, more of Pete's
Pub and a turtle sculpture in the "gardens," as well as the view outside our
saloon door just after sunset. |

Orchid Bay, Guana Cay, Abaco, Bahamas |
|
|
No pictures. We were up at 7 am this morning and were underway at 7:15
from Little Harbor to make high tide through the 3.5 MLW (mean low water)
channel out of the harbor. Important since we have a 4.0 foot draft, a
half foot more than available in the channel at low tide. We then
traveled the 3.5 hours to Guana Cay on the Sea of Abaco and moored at Orchid
Bay Marina that was offering a $0.50 per foot special for February. We
rented a golf cart and headed to Nippers for their famous Sunday pork
barbeque. It was great! After that we toured the cay in the golf
cart then stopped by another local watering hole, Grabbers. We met
Rich and Carol May at Grabbers. They were from New Jersey and we
really enjoyed talking to them. They have purchased land here and
built a home on Guana Cay and plan on moving down here full time in the
future. |

Harbor View Marina, Marsh Harbor, Abaco, Bahamas |
|
No pictures today. Up at 8 we had breakfast and got the
boat ready to move to Harbor View Marina. Just a 9 mile trip we left
at 11 am and arrived in time to find a restaurant for lunch. Rob and
Kathy, from Scot Free, as well as Charlie and Mary Beth from Grey Ghost were
in the area and we hooked up for lunch at Mangoes. A long lunch was
just what we needed. It's the evening now and we've just finished a
chicken and pasta dinner onboard. Time for bed. |

Good nights sleep and we got up ready to do some chores on
the boat. Carey did all the laundry and I did some necessary caulking
and cleaning as well as getting supplies ready to do some engine maintenance
tomorrow. We gathered near the end of the day with our dock mates at
Harbor View marina at a pot luck dinner; and mix and greet. Great fun
with couples from over a dozen boats. |

One of these days I'll remember to take the camera. We
worked on the boat today with winds up to 30 knots. At 5:30 pm we joined
8 couples that gathered at a local restaurant called Walleys, who
began a 5-7 happy hour today. The event was packed with locals and us
boaters. At 7 pm most of us moved to Snappers to have dinner for the
evening. We had dinner and drinks with Charlie and Mary Beth from the
eastern shore of Virginia. A great time. |

Nice morning with some clouds which made it a nice low 70 degree day.
After a few chores we walked to the food store and had breakfast en route.
Once back on board I became the hair dresser and helped Carey dye her hair.
Then Carey did some laundry. Actually a busy day. With what was
left of the day, we relaxed, read, and watched activities around the area.
The dinghy dock near the marina was busy all day as people made their way
into town from the anchorage area. Some very nice looking boats
arrived at the marina today in advance of a cold front that will arrive
Saturday and Wally's a restaurant, across the street from our marina, stayed
busy. At 5:30 pm Carey and I went to Snappers with a group of people
we have met and traveled with over the last couple weeks. We were all
there to enjoy the performance of Brown Tip's rake and scrap Bahamian band.
Brown Tip uses a saw and a brush to make music as well as a drum. He
is really great! We enjoyed, drank, and danced to his music.
We're now back on board getting ready to go to bed. |
