Date Location Log and Pictures
17 Mar West End, Bahamas The alarm rang at 5 am and we were underway by 6:30 am for the Bahamas.  We crossed the inlet and established communications with several other boats going to the same place, giving us reassurance that help was available if we had a problem crossing this piece of the Atlantic.  It was a bitter sweet day as we reached our vacation destination as Carey has lost a very dear friend
18-22 Mar West End, Bahamas Beautiful here - sandy beaches, resort, pool, beach shanty bar, great food and hospitality.  We've stayed to get mail, enjoy a beautiful spot, and wait out a long cold front with strong winds.  At right is a beautiful church in the West End Settlement we visited by bicycle today.  The rest of the settlement still shows hurricane devastation.  Tomorrow, weather permitting, we're on our way to the Berry Islands, 40 miles NW of Nassau.  We'll enjoy the Cays there and wait out an incoming front for several days before heading for Nassau and the Exumas.
23-26 Mar Great Harbor and Devil's Cay, Berry Islands, Bahamas Up at 5 and underway by 6 am the 23rd, we traveled 90 miles of the Atlantic to the Berry Islands, anchoring at Great Harbor Cay by 3 pm, just ahead of the cold front that brought 20 knot winds.  We relaxed the 24th as winds continued to blow.  On the 25th we made an easy 30 mile trip to Devil's Cay and enjoyed 2 days with beautiful sandy beaches and clear water whose color indicated its depth.  Amazing to drive the waterway by looking at its color instead of markers like in the US.

27 Mar Nassau, Bahamas We finally left Devil's Cay Monday the 27th and headed for Nassau.  An easy trip in the open Ocean.  We moored, refueled and had a great dinner.  Shortly we'll be underway for the Exumas, just 30 miles away.
28-29 Mar Highborn Cay Winds were expected to be high but we stuck our nose out and found the ride ok, so we steamed 30 miles to Highborn Cay, our first stop in the Exumas.   A beautiful place so we stayed a second day, enjoying a beach picnic with Kathy and Ross, who we met on the Great Loop, and a single handed sailor named Kip.  On the first night we were surprised to be able to hook up to the internet via the wifi off one of the 3 100 foot yachts anchored nearby.

30-31 Mar Norman and Warderick Wells Cay An easy trip on the 30th, we traveled 8 miles to Norman Cay and stayed the day enjoying another beautiful beach and cocktails with Kathy, Ross, and Kip.  Friday, the 31st we were underway by ourselves at 10 am for Warderick Wells.  This is the headquarters area for the Exuma Park and has a horseshoe shaped channel with 21 mooring buoys.  Note the boats moored on buoys below left in the narrow channel.  Nature walks to the Ocean and beautiful beaches make this the best stop so far.
