My
brother-in-law Barny and I, along with his dog Durango, completed the Great
Loop on Apolonia between 18 April 2005 to 7 November 2005. This section of the web
site provides a log
and pictures of the trip. Links to the time line for the cruise are
listed above along with some planning information. You can navigate to other major sections of the web
using the tabs at the upper left.
The last update to the loop pages was 30 November 2005. We completed the loop
7 November having moored at Lady's Island Marina, Beaufort, SC, the place we
started the trip.
We traveled 6,000 miles that included passing
through 108 locks in 660 underway hours, for an average speed of 8.5 miles
per hour.
The trip took 204 days, 151 underway and 63 inport.
Four weeks of the inport time was to stay away or hide from hurricanes.
First, we stopped in Midway Marina in Fulton MS for the last two weeks of
September waiting for the weather to clear in the Gulf. Once underway Hurricane
Wilma fooled us and arrived in mid October as we were crossing Florida.
We successfully rode out Wilma in Glades Resort, Florida, near Lake
Okeechobee.
Of the total nights on the trip we spent 69
anchored, 26 at free docks, and 109 in marinas. We averaged 27.5 miles
per day and 37.1 per underway day.
