Trip Log and Pictures

May 20, 2012 Colonial Beach, VA A wonderful 3 day trip to Philadelphia, PA, the birthplace of America.  Carey and I joined Gary and Pat Ralston for the trip.  We had a great time.  We packed Gary's Cadillac and headed out on Sunday,.  We arrived in Phila and found our rooms in the downtown Sheraton.  After some relaxing and a drink we headed out for the Walnut Street Theater. the oldest in the U.S. to watch Buddy -- The Buddy Holly Story.  The main actor sounded just like Buddy Holly.  A beautiful theater and a better play, we rocked the night away to Richey Valens, the Big Bopper, and Buddy Holly.

Before the show Carey and Pat posing for the crowd.

May 21, 2012, Philadelphia, PA Monday morning we got up late and decided on touring the city.  We started with Independence hall, where George Washington and "gang" wrote and approved the Declaration of Independence and finally the Constitution.  Then we stopped by to look at the Liberty Bell.  What history.  A National Park tour guide provided an inspiring story about the events.
The court room at Independence Hall, the first meeting place of the US Supreme Court and at far right where all the birthplace documents were discussed and approved.

May 21 ... the afternoon and evening It's about noon now and we needed to eat.  Gary suggested a true deli, New York style.  We found it at the "Famous 4th Street Deli," and enjoyed so much food we could not eat it.  Pat had an omelet, potatoes, and potato pancakes she shared with Gary.  I made the mistake of having a 6 egg omelet with smoked salmon and onions.  The mistake was the 6 eggs ... a huge omelet, and I included potato pancakes.  It was great but just too much food.  Carey had a Reuben that was big enough to feed all of us!  But there was no doubt it was an authentic New York Deli in Philadelphia.  We jumped on a bus for a guided tour of the city and followed that with a stop at a local Irish Pub for Irish Coffee.  Later that evening we finished up with a great Italian meal at Branzino's where most of us had a veal dish to die for.  It was a BYOB establishment so the cost was really reasonable.  We brought our own wine. After dinner we finished the wine off in our room.
Pat and half an order of omelets and potatoes.  At far right my 6 egg omelet of smoked salmon and onions.

Carey's Reuben ...

Beautiful courtyards in the city.

May 22, 2012 Little Italy Up late on Tuesday we went to the Italian market and were astonished by the selection of meat, fish, and vegetables.  We also found a great cafe called Sabrina's were we had a fabulous breakfast before heading home to Colonial Beach and Farnham.  A great 3 day trip.  I'd do it again any time.
