24 Nov 2006 Colonial Beach, VA Just getting it ready for the trip report. Leaving this Saturday or Sunday!!!
25 Nov Portsmouth, VA Up too early and underway at 0630 from Colonial Beach.  Patty, Gary and Pat saw us off and we made a quiet and easy trip to Norfolk, 130 miles, in 9 hours.  The weather was really beautiful and we experienced great hospitality at Tide Water Yacht Center in Portsmouth, VA, they know how to take care of boaters.  Along the way, Carey and Sophie enjoyed the sunshine and we all enjoyed the great views of the coast, including the Chamberlain Hotel at Old Point Comfort.

26 Nov Coinjock, NC After a good nights sleep we arose at 7 am, cleaned the boat a bit and headed south.  We joined with George and Loretta Smith, on their 37 foot Bay liner, and moved through the Norfolk area bridges and Great Bridge lock in the Virginia Cut.  We were surprised as we were joined by 12 boats in the Great Bridge lock; still a lot of people moving south.  We arrived in Coinjock, a 50 mile trip from Norfolk at 2:30, tied up and enjoyed cocktails and a great dinner at the local restaurant.

27 Nov Dowry Creek Marina Fog stopped us from leaving at 8 this morning, but it finally cleared at 10 am so we headed south across Albemarle Sound and down the Alligator River.  Bill was enjoying the drive as Carey and I read.  We stopped, after a quick 80 miles, at Dowry Creek Marina.  Moored by 3:30 we had time to relax and enjoy the setting sun just a couple hours later.

28 Nov Peletier Creek Waters today were beautiful and the sun was shinning.  We passed the USCG station at Hoboken, seeing our tax dollars at work.  Early afternoon we pulled into Taylor's Boat Works at Peletier Creek, just south of Morehead City.  The Boat Works is owned by a friend of Bill's, who did the restoration work on his Trumphy "Whiteswan" several years ago.  Friendly people and we all went to dinner at a local seafood house in Beaufort, NC.  A great day to be on the water.

29 Nov New River Marina The low tide kept us at Peletier Creek until noon; we needed near high tide to leave the marina.  We finally left after lunch, having enjoyed the morning with a trip to Wal Mart and walking around the area.  A 40 mile afternoon trip got us to New River Marina, near the end of Bogue Sound.  It was a beautiful trip but kept us on our toes as there is a lot of shoaling in the area.  Bill, with his camera, spent time on the bow trying to get a good picture of the V-22 Ospreys flying in the area (near a Marina base) and the dolphins playing around the boat.

30 Nov St James Marina, NC Underway at 7:30 to get thru several bridges with tight schedules.  Beautiful trip, but we see the upcoming wet and cold weather coming in with clouds and wind.  We stopped at mile marker 315 and plan on reaching Georgetown SC (mile 403) tomorrow night.  The martinis and manhattans taste great and we're hopefully ready for the upcoming rain and wind tomorrow.  Some of the sights along the waterway are shown below along with the work on the Southport NC waterfront area.

1 Dec Georgetown, SC Underway at 6:45 am we paced ourselves to make the various bridges and have high water in the notorious shoaling areas.  A weather system brought 20 knots of wind in the afternoon but we were fairly protected, and Bill only experienced a moderate chop on the water even with the high winds.  A pleasant day pushing 87 miles under the keel to moor at Georgetown SC.
