Date Location Log and Pictures
1-2 Jan 2007 Marsh Harbor, Abacos, Bahamas It was a typical old folks New Year's Eve.  We went to dinner and came home by 10 pm.  After a short nap we awoke for the midnight festivities that included fireworks directly over head the boat, then went to sleep.  New Year's Day was a slow relaxing one that included several cleaning chores that just needed doing.  We're planning a trip to the outlying cays starting mid week.

The 2nd of January, also a relaxing day, brought friends we'd met on the trip across the Atlantic.  They are moored at Green Turtle Cay and plan to move over here this week.  Kathy and Ross, old boating friends from last year will also be arriving this month.  It will be a regular reunion.  Sun is shinning, winds are light, and we're trying to keep our New Year's resolutions.

3 Jan Marsh Harbor, Abacos, Bahamas 75 degree weather greeted us this morning, as has been the case since we've been here.  After coffee, we toured the island on foot, seeing landscaped roads, beachfront condos, and many single family homes.  Along the way we noticed a large 20 foot dinghy, powered by two 225 horse outboards.  It needed some work, but if fixed, what a way to travel around the area.

4-5 Jan Marsh Harbor, Abacos, Bahamas

Wednesday night we attended the much talked about Jib Room pork barbeque, traveling by dinghy as it was on the other side of the bay.  Dave and Dottie Richardson mentioned the place after their visit last year. Great food and we met a bunch of boaters enjoying the area as we are.  Thursday we played tourist most of the day, then completed a few chores, always necessary on a boat.  We'll start traveling again when the seas die down a bit.  For now it's just enjoy the area and its sunsets.

6 Jan Marsh Harbor, Abacos, Bahamas Party time in Apolonia as we were joined by Bookie and Janie from Tag A Long and Delane and Paula from Called Aweigh, friends we'd met in Florida.   After their arrival we began a long and fun happy hour, followed by the only possible follow-up -- sleep.  Prior to the happy hour we toured the harbor in the dinghy and noted the many classes of boats that tour the Bahamas each year.

7-9 Jan Marsh Harbor

Several days of simple vacation and relaxation.  We're visiting with friends and waiting the arrival of past boat pals, Kathy and Ross on the trawler Pilgrim.  A front is passing through and the winds are high but in this little protected harbor we are experiencing only sunshine and warmth.

10 Jan Marsh Harbor

Great day, even with a cold front that came through last night.  The temperature dropped to 65 and the wind is blowing 20-25 knots.  Securely moored at the marina we enjoyed remarking the anchor chain as the paint had washed off with all our anchoring over the last year.  Most enjoyable was catching up with Ross and Kathy from Pilgrim (below left), who arrived yesterday.  We originally met them in 2005 on the Great Loop.  They've joined the local group here that includes Bookie, Janie, Delane, and Paula, who have been here for a week.  Ross and Kathy decided to stay a month and we're planning brief trips to surrounding Cays.  Below right you see Carey and Bookie preparing the table for a dinner onboard Tag Alone, Bookie and Janie's boat, the other night.  Last night we went with Ross and Kathy to Mangoes, a local restaurant, and had a meal worth even their high price.

11-12 Jan Marsh Harbor Still blowing hard, 25+ knots, but comfortable at the Marina. With boating friends we enjoyed a local bar with Bahamian music.  The boaters are sitting in place waiting for the winds to abate.

13-16 Jan Marsh Harbor Continued vacation time, meeting new people, learning their stories, and of course washing the dog.  Walks, reading, and relaxing.
