Man of War Cay |
Underway from Hope Town this morning
after breakfast ashore. We grabbed a mooring buoy at Man of Way Cay
just after noon. As the town does not sell or serve alcohol we had a
glass of wine, put the dinghy in and went exploring. The settlement on
the cay is clean, neat and full of narrow streets where the golf cart is the
primary mode of transportation. The area is known for boat building
and we watched the work in their open shops and were amazed at the three
dimensional carvings being made at the local stores. |

Marsh Harbor |
Up early Friday and underway for Marsh Harbour to beat the
cold front predicted for the afternoon. We arrived about noon, relaxed
a bit and walked a short distance to Wally's for lunch. A great meal
followed by an afternoon siesta and and evening of Farkel. Saturday
morning was filled with Tom and Bonnie packing for their trip home to the RV
in Florida. We all had a great time and we're glad Tom and Bonnie
could come for a visit. We enjoyed several of the local bars with them
and friends, seeing a great deal of the Abacos and tasting many
of its treats. |

Marsh Harbor |
We're relaxing and doing chores on the
boat. A strong cold weather front controlled our weather for the last
several days so it was nice to sit at the dock while the wind blew. |

Little Harbor, Abaco |
Sunrise was beautiful and Ross and
Kathy joined us for a trip to Little Harbor and Guana Cay this morning.
Underway at 0930 we traveled 24 miles to Little Harbor, a beautiful small
harbor south of Marsh Harbor, home of Pete's Pub and Gallery. The area
is close to the Ocean and has amazing beaches and a gallery that show cases
the owners sculptures and pictues. |

Marsh Harbor, Abaco |
After a great lunch at Pete's Pub on
Saturday and before a dinner board, cooked by Ross and Kathy we rested
comfortably. You can see Phil resting very comfortably ... only after
two of the special rum drinks at Pete's Pub. Sunday morning Phil fixed
breakfast and we got underway for Guana Cay and lunch at Nippers. We
had a great meal and then headed for Marsh Harbor, arriving at 5 pm, just
before the next cold front arrived. |

Marsh Harbor |
Really quiet and relaxing these few days. We helped friends from
Tag-A-Long and Called Aweigh untie and head for the states, joined Kathy and
Ross at Curley Tails for a great Valentine's Day Celebration dinner, and
took Sophie for her quarterly grooming. All is well here but we are
expecting a strong cold front this weekend with heavy winds, so we'll check
out the book store and old movie catalogue. |
16-20 Feb |
Marsh Harbor |
Great days of relaxing, reading, and accomplishing a few
chores. Kathy and Ross came by on the 17th for pizza and a movie.
The expected cold front passed quickly as we sat and watched the movie.
The discussion ended up on surround sound for our TV and DVD, as we have
entertainment speakers throughout the boat, not connected to the TV.
Ross stopped by the next morning and we tied the TV and all
entertainment to the speakers throughout the boat. Amazing surround
sound on the boat now, just like at the movies. I had tried this
before and got no where as I was trying to connect the TV to the
entertainment amplifier. Ross showed me how to connect the amplifier
to the DirectTV and DVD/VHS recorder. It works. |
21-22 Feb |
Marsh Harbor and Hope Town |
Patti and Ann arrived on the 21st for a visit. Sophie had her
hair cut and was waiting patiently for their arrival. We treated them
to local rum drinks on board and then stopped by several of the bars in the
area, including Boat Harbor. On Thursday morning, the 22nd we were up
and out to Hope Town. We traveled via the local ferry system,
relatively empty on the ride over, but packed on the way back in the
evening. It is a 365 day a year operation and is the only way to to
get to most of the Cays around the Abacos.
In Hope Town we rented a golf cart for the tour around the Cay. We
visited a local cemetery, amazing in that it was right on the Ocean and for
the many different head stone inscriptions. We were thirsty when we
finished and the ladies found a nice restaurant and later a cool local bar,
then gathered the energy to visit a few other sights as well as taking a
tour of a local weekly rental home in the area. A two bedroom place
for 4 people can be rented for about $2,100 per week; one bedroom for
$1,400. Not bad for a place right on the Ocean. After a full day
we headed back to Marsh Harbor on the ferry. |

Guana Cay |
Underway about 10 am, we made an easy transit to Guana Cay and moored at
Orchid Bay Marina. Along the way we made contact with Dave and Judy on
board Sweet Liberty, a couple we met last year in the Bahamas. After
tying up we walked to Nippers and enjoyed the Ocean beach. Later in
the day joined Dave and Judy and made our way to Grabbers where we enjoyed
their $10 Mexican buffet. The music was great and we enjoyed dancing
and drinking. A great time. Along the way we finally found the
house Carey wants to buy in the Bahamas, just behind the three ladies in the
picture below (don't I wish this is all she wants here!!!) |

Marsh Harbor |
We let the sun wake us this morning. The ladies went for a walk and Carey
walked the dog. Underway about 11 am we motored back to Marsh Harbor,
while Ann checked her camera and took some pictures. Patti checked the
view. A very pleasant trip across the Sea of Abaco. Tonight
we're on our way to the Jib Room for a steak dinner. |

Marsh Harbor |
Saturday evening we joined Dave, Judy, Ross, and Kathy at the Jib Room for
the special steak night dinner. After dinner the band started a limbo
and we were all entertained, first by Patti giving it a try and finally by
the star of the evening who made it under a pole on fire just 18 inches from
the deck. He'd done it before! We laughed, ate and drank.
Sunday morning after a breakfast of Chicken Souse and omelets, Patti and Ann
packed their bags and put on heavy coats for their trip back home to the
cold northeast. |

Greet Turtle Cay |
The laundry is done and the weather is ok so we left Marsh Harbor and
started our trip home. Our first stop, after 20 miles was Black Sound
at Green Turtle Cay. We traveled with Kathy and Ross and moored to a
buoy in the sound. After a walk along the shore, looking across the
bay at the local village, we stopped by and had drinks aboard their boat,
Pilgrim. |

Great Sale Cay |
Tuesday morning we took Sophie in for her walk and then got underway for a
60 miles trip to Great Sale Cay. The water was like a lake and we
anchored at 4:30 next to Pilgrim. After a dice game of Farkel Carey
fixed a great pork dinner and we listened to a passing Thunderstorm ... no
wind, just lighting and rain. A beautiful evening. |

28 Feb |
West End, Grand Bahamas Island, Bahamas |
Storms passed us all through the night but the boat held fine on the anchor.
Raining when we got up, but by the time we were underway the sky was
clearing and we had a great 45 mile trip to West End. We were hoping
for a weather window to the states on Thursday, but a front stalled and the
wind is blowing too hard, so we'll stay here tomorrow and see what happens
on Friday. After mooring in West End we enjoyed hamburgers and drinks
at the beach side bar and ended the day playing Frakel. Kathy was
having such bad luck, she started playing blind folded. |
