Marsh Harbor Barny and Ginger arrived at noon on the 18th.  After settling in we went to Curytails for lunch with Kathy and Ross, and then later that evening cooked hamburgers at the marina pool with a few more friends to welcome Barny and Ginger to Marsh Harbor.

Marsh Harbor

Great day showing Barny and Ginger Marsh Harbor, observing a beautiful sailing boat gliding through the harbor and touring Buck-A-Book; a conex box that is used to sell paper back books and videos for a dollar, raising funds for the wide horses on the island.  The ladies toured the island, of course stopping to shop at most of the stores.  Later that evening Ginger and Barny fixed Yaka Soba, a Japanese dish, for us and our friends Kathy and Ross.  After dinner we played Farkel, a fast paced dice game that Kathy and Ross taught us.  The winner, you see below, was Carey.

Hope Town Happy Birthday Ginger!  Barny said happy birthday with a beautiful bracelet and we got underway for Hope Town at 1030.  An easy trip of 9 miles.  Once there we enjoyed the Ocean beach, the scenery and homes.  I do seem to remember we stopped for a beer somewhere along the way.  One thing you will not see in the US is a cemetery on the beach, as we found in Hope Town.  Kathy and Ross steamed with us and moored near us in the Harbor.  The last picture below right is of the Hope Town harbor from their light house.

21 Jan Guana Cay

Hot coffee and some muffins started this day and then a trip to the Elbow Cay Lighthouse at Hope Town.  After the lighthouse tour we got underway for Guana Cay, a 15 mile trip.  We had lunch at the Nipper's Restaurant pig roast then stopped by Grabbers, a shore side bar, for an afternoon toodie.  We're now aboard resting.

Treasure Cay

Not up early, but after an egg, bacon, and cheese sandwich prepared by Barny we got underway and headed for Treasure Cay, a mere 9 miles distance from Guana Cay.  We found a quiet anchorage in the harbor and headed for the beach.  Or that is, Ginger and Carey headed for the beach as Barny and I kept a bar stool occupied.  The Cay is known for its miles of beach, and that it has.  Ginger and Carey enjoyed their beach chairs and the sunshine.

Marsh Harbor

We woke up to a morning rain shower then relaxed through the morning before getting underway to Marsh Harbor.  We've had a good three day trip but the weather is expected to blow a bit, so we decided to go back to the marina for the day.  A short 15 mile trip and we pulled into the slip just as the cold front arrived.  We're relaxing and getting ready to tour the town tonight.

24-25 Jan Marsh Harbor

Sun is shinning and we're doing the vacation trick, window shopping, trying to determine where the best rum punch is sold, and visiting with other boaters here in Harbor View Marina.  On a walk to another marina, Boat Harbor, we met people from three Great Harbor trawlers that are good friends of Randy and Barbara Semper, long time friends of ours.  It is a small world, that was quickly confirmed as we had a drink at the Marina's pool side bar and noted the Aquia Harbour Yacht Club flag hanging on the bar ceiling.  It was left there by other friends of ours, Dottie and Dave Richardson, on their trip last winter.

Last evening 9 of us jumped into a local cab and traveled to the Jib Room at Marsh Harbor marina for their special rib night.  A full rack of ribs for each of us, easily washed down by more of those rum specials.

An easy start to the day and I even made breakfast.  Barny and Ginger packed and prepared to leave for Arizona.  The night before, as a strong Cold Front moved through the area, we gathered on the sundeck of the boat with Ross and Kathy to enjoy food and friendship.  The dice game Farkel has become a major activity and we played it all afternoon as the rain and wind pushed through the area.  Friday morning Barny and Ginger said good bye to us and took the taxi to the airport and their flight to Gold Canyon, Az.  We have really enjoyed their visit and are sad to see them leave.

27-29  Jan Marsh Harbor Saturday, the 27th was a quiet day with several boat chores to accomplish.  Tom and Bonnie arrived Sunday and we relaxed aboard as the wind blew hard from a strong cold front moving over the area.  Monday, wind still blowing, we rented a car and drove around Great Abaco Island.  We traveled one road along the coast that was part pavement and part sand, and full of pot holes and buzzards.  It gave us a real view of the inland Bahamas.  We also stopped by Treasure Cay and its sandy beach.  Bonnie had to go walking but the cool weather kept her out of her bathing suit.  At one stop we noticed a "VIP lounge," picture below right, but could not figure out what it was for.   At the end of the day we stopped at Boat Harbor so Bonnie, a past Commodore of Aquia Harbour Yacht Club, could see the burgee Dave and Dottie Richardson left on there visit here.  Carey got hooked on a local toss the ring game which caused us to have more than one drink.  The evening was filled with a cocktail party on board with many of the local boaters at Harbor View Marina.  Tomorrow we're off on the boat for Hope Town.

30-31  Jan Hope Town, Elbow Cay

Underway at noon Tuesday for Hope Town.  It's an easy 7 mile trip.  After arriving we decided to relax on board and enjoy watching the boats move around the harbor.  Towards evening Carey and Bonnie took Sophie for a walk and Bonnie got her first look at this beautiful Town.  No mooring buoys were available so we bent the no anchoring rule and anchored in the harbor.  Early Wednesday, as some boats left the harbor we were able to get a mooring buoy and decided to stay another day.  We rented a Golf Cart and toured the entire Cay, from Hope Town down to Seascape Resort at the south of Elbow Cay.  The golf cart had a faulty gas gauge and we ran out of gas, luckily near the only gas pump on the Cay.  Took a rum punch to get us ready to trust the cart for the ride home, stopping at Abaco Inn for lunch, that sits on the Atlantic Ocean side of the Cay.  Later we walked the narrow streets of Hope Town realizing we'd seen more of the Cay on this trip then we realized was here.  A great day!
