Myrtle Beach, SC |
A normal Sunday morning. Bookie
and Janie took us to breakfast and we caught up on each others activities.
At 10 we returned to the boat and hopped in Delane and Paula's car for a
tour of their part of the world. A great site seeing day, returning
early enough for a nap and an early dinner on Called Aweigh, Delane and
Paula's boat. We're settling in for an early evening now and will be
underway for points north tomorrow at 9 am. Carey and I are both
anxious now to get back to Colonial Beach. We'll see how fast we move
over the next few days. |

Wrightsville, Beach, NC |
Underway at 9 am we made the Sunset
Pontoon Bridge at 10 am. Then we headed for Carolina Beach State Park.
By the time we got there the tide was too low for us to get in the entrance
channel so we continued on to Wrightsville Beach to anchor. We're
safely anchored and enjoying left over sea food from a restaurant we went to
at Myrtle Beach. Tomorrow we'll stay here, just relaxing, waiting for
the weather to clear for further movement north. It's still warm and
we're worrying whether the weather will be nice and warm when we get back to
Colonial Beach. |

Wrightsville Beach, NC |
Still here. It's great. Took Sophie
for her walk and enjoyed walking around the area. Had dinner at a
Mexican restaurant that was ok, then relaxed aboard the boat as the wind
settled down and the sun set. |
4 Apr |
Beaufort, NC |
Moved 78 miles today to Beaufort as we have
decided it's time to go home. We've had a great time but we're ready
for Colonial Beach. The weather prediction is not great, as another
winter storm appears to cover the northeast. We moored at the City
Marina and enjoyed a great steak at Clawson's, a regulars restaurant in the
Town. |
5 Apr |
Dowry Creek, NC |
Another 70 mile day, we easily made Dowry Creek
as most of the waterway was open water with few no-wake restrictions.
Boat ran great and the high winds from the winter blast have not arrived.
It is getting chilly, but the sun was still shinning as we pulled into Dowry
Creek, just 130 miles south of Norfolk. Carey fixed a great meat loaf
which suited the chilly weather and we relaxed on board the boat. |
6 Apr |
Coinjock, NC |
Underway at 9 am we headed for
Coinjock, NC, just 50 south of Norfolk, where we moored just after 3 pm.
Tomorrow the winds are predicted to increase to 30 knots and it is supposed
to SNOW!!! Maybe we came home to early. If the prediction is
true we'll stay here another day. It's cool enough that Carey is in a
sweater and Sophie is enjoying her thick coat. The Coinjock area is
simply a stop over between Norfolk and the Albemarle Sound, but has two
restaurants, one named Crabbies. We had a pleasant trip through the
sound and are settled in for the night and for what may happen tomorrow. |

7 Apr |
Coinjock, NC |
It's snowing and we are staying put!
It's a blustery, cloudy day and we're going to stay here, eat, watch old
movies and let the weather settle. Although it snowed all morning
there was no accumulation. It melted when it hit the ground, but the
wind blew and it was cold. Two heaters are working hard on the boat.
We're nice and toasty, and hopeful for spring to return soon ... like
tomorrow. |
8 Apr |
Norfolk, Va |
You know it's Norfolk when you see
ships ... ships ... and more ships as you travel up the waterway.
We're safely moored, with the heater on, at Ocean Marina in Portsmouth,
overlooking a tented outdoor theater close by. We arrived at 3 pm
after a 50 mile trip from Coinjock. Although windy it was an ok trip
through Great Bridge Lock and the numerous bridges we had to navigate
through the Norfolk area. Just 130 miles from Colonial Beach, we'll
try for home tomorrow if the 10-15 knot wind forecast holds true. |

Colonial Beach, VA |
10 hours underway, the first in 3-4 foot seas,
got us home to Colonial Beach at 4:30 pm. Moving fast for the day, but
for the most part pleasant. We had drinks with Pat and Gary, who
brought us our car, then the four of us went out for dinner. A great
trip of almost 4 1/2 months and over 2800 miles of travel. But it's
time to be home. |
