The picture below shows a broad view of the Great Loop trip.  We started 18 April and finished 7 November 2005.      

Our trip included:

The ICW (intercoastal waterway) up from South Carolina to Norfolk

The Chesapeake Bay, the C&D Canal, and up the New Jersey coast to New York City. 

Up the Hudson and part of the Erie canal to Lake Ontario

On to the Trent Severn Waterway, Georgian Bay, North Channel, and then Lake Michigan

Visit Chicago at the bottom of Lake Michigan, then through parts of the Illinois, Mississippi, Ohio, and Cumberland rivers. 

Transit 190 miles of the Tennessee River to the Tenn-Tom Waterway 

Reach Mobile AL, via the Tenn-Tom and Tom Bigbee  River then explore the Gulf Coast

Travel through the Okeechobee waterway to Stuart FL 

Then travel the east coast of Florida and Georgia on the ICW.
